Introduction:
External trade statistics, often referred to as international trade statistics, provide crucial insights into a country’s economic activity and its engagement with the global market. These statistics encompass the flow of goods and services across borders, reflecting the exchange of commodities and commercial activities between nations. External trade statistics is pivotal for governments, businesses, policymakers, and analysts alike, serving as a barometer of economic health, competitiveness, and trade dynamics.
At its core, external trade statistics document the imports and exports of a country, detailing the quantity, value, destination, and origin of traded goods and services. This data offers a comprehensive view of a nation’s trade relationships, revealing trends, patterns, and shifts in trade dynamics over time. Moreover, external trade statistics play a fundamental role in shaping trade policies, facilitating international negotiations, and assessing the impact of trade agreements and tariffs.
There is always dire need for trade data for economic and policy making in the country. PBS is giving utmost importance to Trade Statistics. Trade Statistics Section of PBS is responsible for compilation and dissemination of trade figures as well as computation of trade indices. PBS regularly publishes the trade statistics on monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
